Performance "Psychopaths" is a staged version composition of five short stories written by Anton Chekhov. Namely, "Two Newspaper Men", "Overdoing it", " A Malefactor ", "The Death of a Clerk", and "Psychopaths". This performance is the result of the joint efforts of three talented young directors. They are all graduates of the Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS) who studied under the guidance of the renowned director and drama teacher, Leonid Heifetz. That is why the performance appeared to be so unique, diverse, and versatile. "Horror stories" - this is how the directors themselves define the genre of their production, implying both the themes of the selected Chekhov stories themselves: suicide, death, fear, and an opportunity to explore various frightening and sometimes hopeless aspects of modern society. The performance itself is one of the attempts to find a way out of hopeless situations that a person not once may encounter in his life, as well as his drive to search for ways to gain freedom. The performance "Psychopaths" is rather not an appeal to the Chekhov era, but rather an effort to use his wording to describe the problems that are relevant and relatable to us nowadays.
