About the event

The year 2023 will mark the 190th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin, a worthy son of his Fatherland.

Alexander Alexandrovich Pushkin (1833 - 1914) was the eldest son of Alexander Sergeyevich and Natalia Nikolaevna Pushkin, lieutenant general.

A.A. Pushkin graduated in 1851 from the Corps of Pages, participated in the Russian-Turkish War of 1877 - 1878, leading in the rank of colonel of the 13th Narva Hussar Regiment, was awarded the highest Russian award - a gold St George's weapon with the inscription "For bravery".

In 1890 Pushkin retired in the rank of lieutenant general and moved with his family from St. Petersburg to Moscow.

A.A. Pushkin, enrolled in His Majesty's suite, was under Sovereign Alexander III until 27 May 1895. The main duty of General Pushkin at this time was to accompany foreign crowned persons in Russia. Numerous foreign orders and portraits of the august guests, as well as all sorts of souvenirs were kept as a memory of these visits.

Pushkin was actively engaged in the development of education, including women's education. He was head of the educational part of the Moscow Imperial Commercial School, a member of the educational councils of the Catherine and Alexander Women's Institutes, a Moscow provincial publican. From 27 May 1895 to the end of his life he held the position of honorary guardian of the Moscow presence of the Board of Guardianship of the Institutions of Empress Maria.

Pushkin studies owes much to the poet's son, Alexander Alexandrovich Pushkin. During the Pushkin celebrations of 1880 in Moscow, he gave his father's draft notebooks to the Pushkin exhibition organised by the Society of Amateurs of Russian Literature, and after the exhibition closed he presented them to the Rumyantsev Museum.

He died on 1 August 1914 (New Style) in the village of Maloye Ostankino (near Moscow) at the age of 81. In 1963, after the demolition of the church in Marygin, Alexander Pushkin's ashes from the Pavlovs' family necropolis were reburied at the request of his descendants near the church of the Lopasnya-Zachatievskoye estate (within the town of Chekhov), next to the graves of his first wife and three children.

The exhibition at the Lopasnya-Zachatievskoye Estate Museum presents: an officer's uniform of the 13th Narva Hussar Regiment, 19th century engravings from private collections, archival documents from the Archive Department of the Chekhov City District Administration, as well as photographic materials provided by the Pushkin State Museum, the Russian State Library and private collectors.
