General Provisions

1. The founders of the A.P. Chekhov International Recitation Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) are: Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Moscow region and State Autonomous Cultural Institution of the Moscow region "State Literary and Memorial Museum-Reserve of A.P. Chekhov "Melikhovo".
2. The competition is held annually and is timed to the day of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's birth on 29 January.
3. The Organising Committee of the Competition is formed by the founders and approved by the General Director of the A.P.Chekhov Museum-Reserve "Melikhovo".
4. The jury is formed of leading actors, masters of art words, theatre teachers and representatives of the founders.

Procedure and conditions of participation in the Competition

1. The Competition is open to young actors and students of theatre universities of Russia and other countries at the age from 18 to 35 years.
2. Applications for participation in the Competition shall be drawn up in accordance with the Appendix to these Regulations and sent to the Organising Committee of the Competition within the term stipulated in paragraph 2.5. of these Regulations. A link to the video recording of the full version of the performance shall be attached to the application form.
3. Recitation works based on the works of A.P. Chekhov and those authors, which are announced in the annual information release (the theme of the competition and corresponding names of the authors change annually) are submitted to the duration of the performance - up to 12 minutes (not more than 5 works from one organisation).
4. Only solo entries are accepted for consideration.
5. Applications for participation in the Competition are accepted in the period from 21 September to 1 November of the year preceding the year of the Competition.
6. Only one entry (one author, one work) is considered from one participant.
7. Competition analysis and evaluation of the submitted works is carried out by the Competition jury members.
8. The first round of the Competition is held remotely. The participants who have passed the first round of the Competition are invited to the second round of the Competition, which will take place in person in the period from 26 to 28 January at the A.P. Chekhov's Melikhovo Museum-Reserve.

Awards and diplomas

1. According to the results of the audition the jury awards:
- one first prize,
- two second prizes,
- three third prizes,
- five diplomas.
Possible special awards of the founders and interested organisations.
2. The decisions of the jury are final and are not subject to revision.
3. Prizes and diplomas are awarded in a solemn ceremony on the 29th of January, A.P. Chekhov's birthday, at the A.P. Chekhov's Museum-Reserve "Melikhovo" (Moscow region, Chekhov town, Melikhovo village). The winners of the Competition take part in a gala concert dedicated to the writer's birthday.

Formation of the Competition programme

1. The Competition programme includes the main and special programmes.
2. The main programme is based on the works of A.P. Chekhov or on letters, memoirs, literary notes about the life and work of A.P. Chekhov.
3. The special programme includes performances of participants on works of one of Russian or foreign writers. The name of the author is determined by the Organising Committee of the Competition and announced in the information letter on accepting applications for the Competition.

Financial conditions

1. The Organising Committee provides accommodation in a hotel and three meals a day for the participants invited for the audition, as well as arranges transport within Moscow and the Moscow Region.
2. State, public and commercial organisations, mass media, institutions, creative unions and private persons on their own initiative may establish special prizes for the participants of the Competition, which are awarded by the jury in accordance with the wishes of the founders.
