The long-awaited repair and restoration process in the museum has already begun, and today it is in full swing. Seven cultural heritage sites of the Museum will be gradually restored within 2024-2025.

These works are intended not only to prolong the life of wooden buildings, some of which have never been restored before, but also to make all the objects and their expositions available for year-round visiting in the future. For instance, the “Fire Engine Shed "will be open again after a fifteen-year interruption.

Trust us, that restoration is not a good reason to postpone your trip to the museum, anyway!

After moving to Melikhovo in March 1892, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov described the family’s first days in the estate as follows: "We are busy cleaning, washing, painting, and renovating..."  With these words, he was referring to the main building of the manor. It was the Main House, which had undergone an accurate renovation and then was comfortable for its new residents. It was a long-awaited home for the Chekhov family, after fifteen years of living in rented apartments in Moscow and country houses in Moscow Region.

But even today, 132 years later, the similar lively mood prevails in Melikhovo.

However, we have to inform you that currently, the expositions of the "Main House", "Kitchen Wing", and "Russian Bath" are closed for visiting.

Anyway, you can drop in on the following places in the usual way: the grounds of the estate, the expositions of the Ambulance Station, the Melikhovo School, and literary exposition “The Writer’s Kitchen" ("The Writer’s inner workings”) as well as the interactive site "Weather Station Melikhovo". Recently, the exhibitions "Marriage Fever" and "Tuberculosis — the struggle between body and spirit" have been prolonged for visiting.

Besides that, a new interactive exhibition "Chekhov’s Drawings" is underway for opening.

At the same time, since the Main House of the Chekhov estate is closed for restoration from November 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, we are pleased to inform you that its furnishings and exhibits have temporarily moved to our exhibition hall during this period of time.

Today, we are happy to invite you to see the Chekhov house rarities on a display "My dear and honored ... House!" The exhibition was launched on December 1st, 2024. In fact, this is a unique and rather rare opportunity for you not only to see all the major exhibits from the Melikhovo main collection, which describe the life of the Chekhov family at this estate, but also to closely examine individual objects from the Chekhov Museum fund in detail, since they were not in the regular display settings of the memorial exhibition.

 As it was before, you can walk around the memorial landscape, visit the museum on your own or with our guide together with a group of random or individual visitors, as well as take part in interactive, educational programs, master classes, concerts and join many other museum projects.  

The Melikhovo theater "Chekhov Studio" also invites you to enjoy weekly repertory performances as well as Theatrical Saturdays.

Please note, that the Museum of Letters by Anton Chekhov was closed for restoration on October 14th, 2024. The renovated exhibition is scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2025.
