APPLICATIONS FOR THE XIV INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF READING WORKS NAMED AFTER A.P.CHEKHOV HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED

State Literary and Memorial Museum-Reserve A.P. Chekhov "Melikhovo" announces the start of accepting applications for the XIV International Competition of Reading Works named after Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. The theme of the next competition is “Chekhov and Pushkin”. The competition is held by the museum with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Moscow Region. The face-to-face stage will take place in January 2024.

The competition is held annually among young actors and students of theater universities in Russia and other countries. The qualifying rounds will be held in several stages, and the culmination will be a gala concert with the awarding of the winners of the competition on the writer’s birthday on January 29 at the Melikhovo Museum-Reserve, where an additional cultural program will also be organized for the participants.

Every year a special theme is determined for the competition: “Chekhov and Goncharov”, “Chekhov and Kazakov”, “Chekhov and Bunin”, “Chekhov and Dostoevsky”, “Chekhov and Ostrovsky”. Thus, in the museum-reserve, in addition to Chekhov’s stories, works by other classics of Russian literature are also heard, which makes the competition more vivid and memorable.

Next year the theme of the competition is “Chekhov and Pushkin”. In 2024, the world community will celebrate the 225th anniversary of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin.

Young actors and final year students of theater universities who have the disciplines “Stage Speech” and “Artistic Word” in their program are invited to participate in the Competition. The duration of presentations on the works of the authors declared in the topic of the Competition is no more than 12 minutes.

The Competition jury - famous actors, teachers, masters of artistic expression - will select the best performers. The exact composition of the jury will be announced later.

Competitive auditions will be held on January 27 and 28, 2024, a gala concert of the winners and awards will take place on January 29.


Applications are accepted until November 1, 2023 to the address Chekhov-konkurs@yandex.ru


The application must indicate:
1) Last name, first name, age;
2) Place of work/study and/or name of the sending organization;
3) Author and title of the work performed, duration of the performance;
4) Contact information (email, phone).

Mandatory conditions for participation in the competition:

You must attach a link to a video of your performance to your application (you can use it on your phone, the main thing is that the sound and picture are clear);
Young actors and students of theater universities in Russia and other countries aged 18 to 35 can take part in the Competition;
Only solo applications will be considered;
Only one application per participant is accepted for consideration (1 author, 1 work).
