Actors, directors and playwrights come to Melikhovo to immerse themselves in the spiritual atmosphere of Chekhov's time. The museum hosted an acting laboratory with the participation of theatre and cinema actors from Moscow. The lab was organised and led by Vasily Shevchenko, a teacher and acting coach.
It was an intensive creative process, during which the actors were able to experience in practice the leading acting techniques and apply them in their work on dialogues. This will help them in the future to create convincing and memorable images on the screen.
There are many acting techniques, each with its own characteristics and advantages. Some actors prefer the Stanislavski method, which focuses on the inner world of the character and requires a deep dive into their emotions and thoughts. Others prefer more extravagant methods, such as the Meyerhold method, which emphasises the physical expressiveness and style personality of the character. The participants of the lab were offered to try working in different and interesting professional experiences.
The head of the lab, Vasily Shevchenko, ten years ago, was himself in the role of an apprentice and took part in a training session in Melikhov, conducted by Lola Cohen (USA), a student of Lee Strasberg.
