About the event

A year after the death of Anton Chekhov, his wife Olga Knipper-Chekhova, being on the rocky seashore in Gurzuf, is trying to understand what her love for the great writer meant to her. In the performance, before the eyes of the audience, a world-famous play is born, inspired by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s feelings for Olga Knipper. From the chaos of sounds of the world around her, which is in the grip of death, the music of love and hope is gradually born.

The idea of director Konstantin Rekhtin, who combined the epistolary genre and the text of Chekhov's play in the performance, deserves attention. The letters belong to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and Olga Leonardovna Knipper, later to Knipper-Chekhova. So, on stage, the love story of the actress and the writer is intertwined with the plot of “Three Sisters”.

In October 2023, “Captive of the Seas” was included in the Long List of the Russian National Theater Award and the Golden Mask Festival.
