"Fatherless" - one of Chekhov's first plays and practically the largest, became the basis for many plot lines that appeared in the playwright's later plays. It does not have a fixed name, so when creating a stage version, each director chooses one of three, depending on the idea that the directors put in the center - “A Play Without a Title”, “Platonov”... The creators of the play settled on “Fatherlessness”, which mentioned only once in the author’s letter to his brother.
Without...fatherhood. Chekhov is eighteen. Most of the heroes are not even thirty. Another part of the heroes is over fifty. Fathers and sons: the first are cruel, the second are useless, and where is the truth, where is the way out? In the performance of the Michurinsky Drama Theater, the basis of the search was the theme of the loss of the vector, when the meanings of previous generations are despised, and new ones are not found, when the understanding of the world creates a tragic emptiness, and the desire for destruction, self-destruction leads all “fatherless people” to “hunt” each other, only would instinctively, like an animal, feel life.
