This little-known early story "The Lady» by Anton Chekhov was dramatized and staged in the theater for the first time. The work written by the future famous playwright at the beginning of his career was very different from what one might expect from a master of subtext and humor. He was a subtle psychologist, who could discern all the hidden vices and illnesses of his "patients" and forgive them for their minor weaknesses. "The Lady" is a complex and tough story. The main character of the play is a "Vice", and some people give themselves to it without any resistance, while others give up after a brief hesitation. The phrase "Nothing is sin for a poor man" appears to be the main theme of the whole performance.
The presentation takes place in the theater yard, where the walls of the timber building seem to become one of the characters in the performance. The stage setting creates a realistic atmosphere of peasant life, which involuntarily immerses you in the plot from the very first moment.
