The Melikhov years were a time of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's active and varied social activities. Three schools were built on his initiative. When you come to Melikhovo, you can visit the Melikhovo Memorial School, which was built in 1899.

In the Melikhovskaya school visitors can see the restored classroom and teacher's flat, as well as learn about the history of the Melikhovskaya school, pages from the life of teachers and pupils, learn about what and how children were taught in primary rural schools (as primary rural schools were officially called).
